ZoomData: A radical new way to visualize real-time data.

Today's featured startup, Augaroo, is building a real-time data visualization system called ZoomData – a platform capable of processing real-time data streams and generates interactive, tangible visualizations on both web and mobile devices.
Augaroo is a DC-based startup whose social and mobile apps, websites, and games create huge volumes of data. Augaroo helps you turn that data into money! Their new platform, ZoomData, can be used to view a business ecosystem in real time, and to zoom into any area of interest, with data updating in real time.
ZoomData enables real-time, tactile, interactive data analytics using visually stunning visualizations on mobile tablet technology. Their service will “allow you to do things with data that were never possible before. Touch, pan, zoom, pause, rewind, fast-forward. See your real-time and historical data in an entirely new way, on web and mobile devices.”
President and CEO, Justin Langseth, graduated from MIT and has served as the CTO of a three companies, Strategy.com, Claraview, and Clarabridge, before joining Augaroo. Read our below interview with Justin.
What inspired you to start your company?
I saw a need to enable real-time, interactive, tactile stunning visualizations on top of big data. As business decision making cycles speed up, having insightful access to the latest analytics is crucial for businesses to compete effectively.
Tell us something unique about you and your co-founder(s)?
We have years of experience in the big data space. We have built two prior companies, Claraview, focused on big data strategic consulting services, and Clarabridge, focused on analysis of unstructured sources of big data.
What problem does your product or service solve?
ZoomData solves the problem of understanding, monitoring, optimizing, and troubleshooting the dynamics of sophisticated constantly-changing business and technical systems. It makes analysis of ever-shifting data easy for non-technical business people. We're out to revolutionize people's relationship with their data!
We are also interested in augmented reality, and have built an augmented reality game called ARBall. We see a future where big data and analytics can be exposed and visualized using AR displays like Google Glass, (screenshot pictured to the right).
What are your startup's three biggest challenges to growth?
Funding.
Bootstrapping the startup has its advantages, but we have the desire to do more, faster!
We are currently raising an initial round of funding to help us do exactly that.
What is the startup culture like in your City/State?
Pretty good, but it's hard to get people to leave their cushy 100k+ consulting and government contracting jobs to work for sweat equity on a startup.
There is good access to capital though, both angel and VC so that's a plus.
