What inspired you to start your company?
Seeing plastic bags floating around aimlessly day after day. As a serial entrepreneur and an activist I knew there had to be a way to tie both my passions together.
Tell us something unique about you and your co-founder(s)?
I have been in the business world since I was 10 years old. My dad had a Rent A Car business when we were younger and that helped me fuel my love for business. All the founders involved in this business have known each other since their college days at Loyola.
Tell us about your product or service:
We have a line 100% compostable bags that fit all shapes and sizes. Not only do we supply these bags directly but are able to use our bags as advertising mediums to local businesses. We are simply more than a supplier of bags as we get involved in the communities we do business in and educate on composting initiatives.
What problem does your product or service solve?
Plastic bags are a huge burden to the environment. So much so that governments are focusing on banning plastic bags from large retailers. We provide an alternative that performs like plastic bag but leaves no harmful residue in the environment. These compostable bags are going into consumer’s hands with the hope of educating them on composting standards that can be used.
What are your startup's three biggest challenges to growth?
Capital, Corporate Guidance, Man Power
How has the Startup America Partnership helped you overcome these challenges to growth?
We just joined, but were able to attend an event recently. This helped us build some great connections.
What Startup America Member Benefits have you used?
I have used the accounting information as well as the information on investing and venture capitalist.
Why should startups join Startup America?
Well it's a starting point for any entrepreneur that needs general information and knowledge on leading their business forward. It’s also a great way to build a community grounded support for your product.
What is the startup culture like in your City/State?
Very aggressive here in Chicago, IL but the one thing I have noticed is the lack of non-tech startups around.
What else should we highlight about your startup?
We are very community oriented and focus on building composting awareness through the city of Chicago. The fact that we throw away 30-40% of organic waste to landfills is
a huge problem. We are giving people the tools to start composting and will push them to get involved.
