Summing Up the Summit in Three Words: Get Stuff Done

By Danielle Scherman, Founder & President, Social Wahines, @StartupHI and on Facebook

Get Stuff Done. Those are the three words I'd use to sum up this week's Startup America Summit in Boulder.

First off, I have to pay my respects to the entire town of Boulder for being so completely awesome! Rechung, Chad, and I traveled from Honolulu for this two-day conference and had the opportunity to meet many extraordinarily talented and creative people who have expanded our view of entrepreneurship and inspired us to make stuff happen in Hawaii's startup ecosystem.

Secondly, entrepreneurs have got to be the most optimistic people around and I realize that's what attracted me to this field. Being in a room full of people who aspire to change the world is empowering to say the least.

I learned a great deal in this 48-hour summit and here just a few highlights, I'll bring home with me:

  • A startup community is best created from the bottom up with real people doing real things.

  • Let it be messy and chaotic.

  • Do your thing and the rest will fall into place.

  • Give with no guarantee of return.

  • When things feel comfortable, change them!

On behalf of "Startup Hawaii," we are proud to be apart of this global network! We are excited for all the new connections formed and partnerships created. We invite all of you to launch a business in Hawaii, or just come out and visit. As the most Asia-centric state in the U.S., we welcome all of you to get involved in our community and if you need contacts or help in any way, we hope you will reach out to us! A big MAHALO to the entire staff of Startup America for bringing us all together!
