What inspired you to start your company?
I started SheSpeaks to help empower women as consumers. Women spend over $7 trillion dollars a year and make over 85% of all purchase decisions. They are critical consumers to many companies. I wanted to give women a voice with these companies to help ensure that products and services targeted to her would meet her needs.
Tell us something unique about you and your co-founder(s)?
After years of working in corporate America, I started SheSpeaks as a tool to help empower women. I realized that I always had a desire to empower women dating back to my days in college when I volunteered for a state senator and focused on helping women escape domestic violence and find secure housing for themselves and their children.
What problem does your product or service solve?
SheSpeaks not only empowers women by giving them a voice with companies but, it helps companies gain insight and build advocacy with women through the process of engaging with the vibrant SheSpeaks community.
What are your startup's three biggest challenges to growth?
There really is only one main challenge:
1) The SheSpeaks community has grown organically and quickly. We need to ensure that we have enough companies who are interested in engaging the SheSpeaks community for insights and advocacy. Ultimately, this a sales challenge- selling to the companies who could use SheSpeaks' services.
How will Startup America help you overcome these challenges and help your startup grow?
Via access to networking opportunities and sharing of best practices for B2B sales.
What is the startup culture like in your City/State?
NYC has an extremely vibrant startup culture. Its exciting to be a part of and to have seen how quickly this has evolved in just the last few years.
