What inspired you to start your company?
Gurpreet Singh, CEO of Seva Call, was inspired by an earlier venture called Geeks On-Site, an IT services firm launched in 2004. Callers needed computer help and wanted instant service. If Geeks On-Site was booked or could not provide that specific service, consumers would call other companies. Gurpreet realized consumers' need to find a quality company fast and not just for computer repair, but for a variety of services -- from computer repair to landscaping to carpet cleaning. Seva Call does just that. Seva Call was founded by Gurpreet, Manpreet Singh and Amandeep Bakshi. Consumers use Seva Call's website and mobile apps (soon to be released) to submit service requests and are connected immediately with local service providers who can meet their needs.
Tell us something unique about you and your co-founder(s)?
Brothers Gurpreet and Manpreet Singh have been entrepreneurs since high school. Together they ran a social networking start-up in high school called Desi Vibes. They went their separate ways as Gurpreet founded Geek On-Site, an IT consulting firm that has serviced thousands of customers and has doubled in size in each of the last two years. Amandeep Bakshi managed and trained the technical team at Geeks On-Site. Simultaneously, Amandeep worked for the Department of Defense for five years working with VoIP and software development.
Manpreet continued his entrepreneurial drive essentially as employee number one at a DC based investment management firm. Joining at a time when the firm had less than $20 million in assets, Manpreet was involved with all facets of firm via stints in trading, marketing, research, investing and operations helping the firm grow its assets 100x. As one of the youngest CFA charter holders in the world, Manpreet was profiled by CFA magazine in 2006 as the “Most Ambitious” member, and has been quoted numerous times by Bloomberg, TheStreet.com, and other media for various technology pieces.
Gurpreet and Manpreet are involved philanthropically as directors of the LaKan foundation. Manpreet is active with many other nonprofits, and is a charter member of TiE DC, the Washington DC area’s top network of Entrepreneurs.

Seva Call is a search engine for services that helps drive the economy by seamlessly connecting consumers with quality local companies over the phone in minutes. Seva Call uses a variety of factors including online ratings, reviews, social reputation and interaction, call analytics, and other consumer feedback to find the "Right" professional for anyone looking for service.
Consumers in need of services in any one of our 50+ industry categories, which range from computer repair to veterinarians, can visit our website at www.sevacall.com and enter the time frame in which they would like service and a brief description of their problem. The Seva Call system processes the request using online ratings and reviews, and within minutes connects the consumer via telephone with up to three professionals who are best suited to meet their needs.
Seva Call not only assists consumers, but also local businesses. Seva Call’s innovative Pay Per Conversation system allows companies to make informed decisions about their clients and cherry pick the best leads. This in turn generates compatibility between the client and the business. Factors that determine call order include registration type, location, call analytics from past requests, review data (yelp!, Yahoo!, city search, etc.) and other feedback that is considered. This unique process characterizes Seva Call and will help it grow.
What problem does your product or service solve?
Seva Call saves people from waiting at home and wasting time, which makes our country more economically productive. Consumers often have to rearrange their schedules to accommodate service professionals. Typically consumers also spend valuable time researching and calling several businesses trying to find the one that meets individual requirements such as location, availability, specific need, and, above all, quality. The Seva Call team expects users to get the first call back within 90 seconds from a business that can meet these specific requirements. Seva Call respects user privacy and does not share the user's contact information. Further, Seva Call's Pay Per Conversation system allows companies to make informed decisions about their clients and select the best leads, which allows them to see direct ROI. What are your startup's three biggest challenges to growth?
Seva Call's biggest challenges include acquiring users, revenue and marketing. It is difficult for a startup to attain enough attention and establish itself as a credible company amid the vast sea of businesses. Getting the word out about Seva Call's services will help increase our presence in the business community. The proceeds will improve and market our product. Many business events take place in the DC area, as well, which provides several opportunities to network and communicate with a wide variety of companies and individuals. DC has a burgeoning tech community, so web startups are very welcome. What else should we highlight about your startup? In the next few weeks, Seva Call is announcing its launch in the DC Metropolitan area. We are attending DC Tech Meet Up #15 on July 11th to gain exposure and publicize the launch. After inaugurating our product in DC, we are going to introduce Seva Call to more east coast cities including Baltimore, Philadephia, New York and Boston.
