Optimize your maritime processes and improve your performance with Intellocorp.

Today's featured member, Intellocorp, is a SaaS BI cloud app for the maritime business, extracting data from all the disparate systems that you may find at a shipping company.

Intellocorp believes that process optimization and performance improvement is the foundation for any successful controlling organization. Having the ability to identify issues and the responsible people is the only way to efficiently drive this process. Intellocorp has created a generic model that pre-delivers 300 KPIs spread out on 10 dimensions. The model can be enhanced to cover new KPI's as well as dimensions. The model includes Maritime Executive Dashboards, benchmarking as well as data entry for data owners. Read our interview with Founder and CEO, Morten Bjoern.

What inspired you to start your company?
With a background as a marine engineer, I saw the inefficiency with data handling there is in the maritime industry, so I started developing a tool that can help them save time and money.

Tell us something unique about you and your co-founder(s)?
Both of us have military experience; we joined the forces from the Navy and the Air-force.

What problem does your product or service solve?
We close the gap between manual reporting to a fully automated BI dashboard, giving them a cutting edge advantage for making action-oriented decision making.

IntelloShip also monitors hull performance, which contributes to huge fuel-savings.

What are your startup's three biggest challenges to growth?
1) The industry is extremely conservative, so the sales cycle is from 6-18 months.

2) We would like to accelerate sales and trying to find VC/Angel funding but due to the maritime vertical it is hard to find funding.

3) To find the right people to join your team with the limited funds we have

How has Startup America helped you overcome these challenges to growth?
Startup America has been very supportive and creating some great deals through their network. We haven't used a lot of the other offers due to our business area, but we got connected with Microsoft that added us to their Bizspark plus and partnership program.

What Startup America Member Benefits have you used?
Microsoft Bizspark plus program.

Why should startups join Startup America?
I think it is important to have a community where you can meet other entrepreneurs and get their advice and points on your business.

What is the startup culture like in your City/State?
The startup culture is very active but unfortunately spilt up in a lot of small groups, some more serious than other groups, it is hard to figure out what you should participate in as a lot of them is often just a "coffee club" and no serious action. It would be great to get one of the big VC firms to get involved in the environment down here.

After only 6 months with our latest software release IntelloShip is already experiencing a lot of interest from companies of any size from two ships to several hundred ships.
