Exchange information easily with JAB

Are you looking for a place to easily access advice, recommendations and referrals? Today’s Florida-based startup, JustAskBoo, can help you do just that.
JustAskBoo (JAB) is a community bulletin for thousands of subscribers (JABBERS) throughout several cities in the United States (Atlanta, Chicago, Palm Beach, Orange Co., Ft. Lauderdale, New York City, and Miami). It circulates several times a week to the users e-mail inbox. JABBERs use the newsletter to exchange information, advice, referrals, and more. It is also a great tool to promote fundraisers and events.

What inspired you to start your company?
A clear void. A need for people who know each other through one or two degrees to be able connect easily and quickly, in order to exchange personal recommendations, advice, and more.
Tell us about your product or service
JustAskBoo, or JAB, is an exclusive (but very friendly) e-newsletter that sophisticated individuals post inquiries to ask for personal recommendations, buy or sell items via classified ads, promote charity events, advertise their businesses, and more. Newsletter subscriptions are free of charge, as are select posts. Subscribers, referred to as JABBERS, use first and last names, and all posts are filtered through our superstar editors. Responses exchanged by JABBERS as a result of the Newsletter are archived in our Treasure Chest. Our primary source of revenues is advertisements placed in the Newsletters.
Tell us something unique about you and your co-founder.
JAB was built upside-down. Instead of our founder going to business school, then coming up with an idea, then launching it in beta for a year, then raising capital, then rolling out an official launch, JAB did the opposite. This e-newsletter launched with 1,000 subscribers and immediately took on a life of its own. Our founder raised her first round of investors capital (a friends & family round) three years after launching, and never did test the site in beta. Five years after launch we are circulating in eight cities with 30,000 loyal subscribers.

What problem does your product or service solve?
For our readers who are looking for something that is either very unique, very hard to find, or just not at their fingertips - JAB is the best place to find it.
What are your startup's three biggest challenges to growth?
1) Creating a business model that is attractive to consultants, but will produce revenues for the company;
2) Identifying consultants in our expansion markets on an incentive-based business model;
3) Training our consultants in order to make them self-sufficient.
How has the Startup America Partnership helped you overcome these challenges to growth?
Startup America has provided resources that educate us on how to raise our next round of capital (an angel round), which we are now working toward. It has also provided speaking opportunities, which have provided exposure for our businesses. This is very helpful.
What Startup America Member Benefits have you used?
I have connected with some of their local investors and have spoken publicly at a Startup America event. I have also used the website for research.
Why should startups join Startup America?
If you are an entrepreneur looking to grow your business, there are endless resources available through Startup America.
What is the startup culture like in your City/State?
Startup America is a community of people looking to help each other - just like JAB!
What else should we highlight about your startup?
We are currently interested in raising our second round of capital!
