What inspired you to start your company?
My co-founder and I had the privilege of working with a lot of brilliant entrepreneurs earlier in our careers, and the thing that has always stood out to us was the amazing passion they brought to everything they do. The problem was that many of them lacked the background and, quite frankly, the interest to successfully manage their finances and strategy.
It’s always sad to see a passionate entrepreneur fail because of poor financial management. We truly believe that life is far too short to live someone else’s dream. Our mission...our passion is to help entrepreneurs find success doing the things they love, and that means making finance easy.
Tell us something unique about you and your co-founder?
My co-founder, Matt Ankrum, was actually my boss before we started BodeTree. He was the head of strategy for a Fortune 500 organization and hired me to help explore new opportunities for the company. One day, while we were working on a project the topic of entrepreneurship came up. Four hours later we left with the idea that became BodeTree! Another interesting fact is that we each have equal voting rights, despite different initial capital contributions. It’s just another testament to how well we work together.
What problem does your product or service solve?
Entrepreneurs start their businesses because they want to follow their passion and control their own destiny, not because they love to build spreadsheets. We make it easy to understand your financials, develop your strategy,and make the best decisions for your business.
What are your startup's three biggest challenges to growth?
Our top three challenges to growth are:
1) Finding efficient ways to market to small business owners,
2) Finding the right message to communicate to these small businesses, and
3) Finding the best distribution channels for our app.

What is the startup culture like in your City/State?
BodeTree has offices in both Phoenix and Denver. While Colorado has a thriving startup culture, Phoenix is still lacking. We’re working with Startup America to develop a robust network of like-minded entrepreneurs in Phoenix area in order to support the next generation of startups!
